An intro to Scrumble Crochet

Scrumble crochet is a free form crochet art where you build up in layers and add embelishments to each piece.  Once you have learnt this technique you can make lots of lovely items including bags, cushions scarves and much more just let your imagination run wild!   In this class we will learn to make a simple brooch using various yarns, beads and buttons.  At the end of the class you will have a pretty brooch to take home.  All materials supplied.

Printing And Bookmaking Workshop

Running Times: 11:00am & 3:00pm - Saturday 19th Only

Saturday only Class: Create a simple pamphlet book with a unique designed cover using simple print techniques, then, turn it into a pamphlet book learning a basic bookmaking process.  Much of the equipment used will be items available in your home,  so you will be able to build on what you have learnt in the workshop and continue to develop your skills.  Materials and tools provided, but if you have items you want to use for printing, please bring them along.

Origami Waxed Wrap

Fifty Bees

Running Time: 11:00am-1:00pm

Cost to Attend: FREE

Make British Bees in Needle Felted wool and stitch with Lydia Needle of FIFTY BEES.
Watch as bees emerge from the wool as you learn how it can be moulded and sculpted.
Running from 11am till 1pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday and each bee takes 1.5 to 2 hours so do plan your time. First come first served.
Uses sharp tools so suitable for ages 8 upward, under 16s must be supervised by an adult.
The bees will be kept by Lydia to be added to the growing installation which will be on show in Somerset in 2022

Sonia's Macrame Hanging Baskets

Create Your Own Lampshade Design

Running Times: 10:20am / 12:00pm / 2:00pm & 3:00pm

Location: Balcony Stand G6- Paper Shades

Cost to attend: £20

Join a table of creativity and have fun with a vast range of paper which you can collage into a design. Your design will then be printed on the spot and turned into a beautiful paper lampshade you can take home. It will cost to attend  £20 each and that includes the beautiful lampshade you will take home (you can pay on the day in cash or by card and you can also pay in advance by bank transfer). There is room for up to 10 people a time at this workshop, workshops last around 1 hour (longer if needed).

Intro To Tatting

Running Times: 10:20am & 1:30pm

Location: Stand 47 - Tatting & Design

Cost to Attend: £10

This workshop is an introduction to the beautiful art of tatting with a needle to produce a pretty lace motif that can be used on a card or gift tag. You will learn the basic stitch , how to read a pattern, how to make rings and chains and picots how to join the motif. It's an amazing opportunity to learn a new skill opening up a huge range of lace possibilities.

Learn to be a master at Fair Isle Knitting

Join Search Press author Monica to create your own pieces of Fair Isle. You will master the skills of changing yarn colours, reading charts and patterns and be able to produce your own Fair Isle samples to take home. This workshop is for people who can cast on and off and knit and purl confidently. All yarns and tools will be provided.

Batik Taster Workshop

Running Time: 11:00am

Location: Mendip Hall Stand M5 - Jo Whiteland

Cost To Attend: £10

Learn the art of batik: applying wax onto fabric as a resist before painting on fabric dyes. There will be time to apply wax using tjantings (Indonesian wax pens) and brushes and painting on dyes twice to build up colour and texture.

You will produce a final design (approx 25cm x 25cm) to take away with instructions on how to finish at home. 4 designs to choose from or create your own. Maximum 6 people, each design should take approximately 90 mins to finish. Please book on the day.

Make a Fused Glass Coasters

Running Times: Thurs / Sat - 10:15am

Cost To Attend: £20

Discover fusing glass and explore how to use it to make two coasters of your own design. Your teacher, an experienced fused glass artist, will show you lots of different samples to open up your mind to the creative possibilities. The pieces you make will be fused overnight in our kilns and posted out to you after the session free of charge.

Please note that our workshops are not suitable for students under the age of 16.

Each session is one hour long and will begin promptly at the advertised time. When booking your session, please choose the date and time from the drop down menu above. Spaces are limited and bookings are not transferrable unless agreed 7 days prior to the event.

Explore the possibilities of using metal inclusions and glass enamels to create your own fused glass suncatcher to hang in a window. You will learn some of the core skills for glass fusing and how to construct a piece for kiln firing. The piece you make will be fused overnight in our kilns and posted out to you after the session free of charge.

Making A Tote Bag

Cost To Attend: £15

The workshops will be 'Making a Tote Bag' with lots of options to personalise the bag.  The workshop will include a pre-cut bag a pattern, instructions, ideas for altering the pattern and/or personalising the bag, plus a free A4 sheet of bonding paper and a small bag of sewing clips.

Each session is 1hr30mins, max 5 People per workshop.

Drop-in Fun Fish Sculpture Workshops

Every day between 10.00 - 11.15 and 3.30 - 4.45

Cost to attend £7.50

Come and create a fun fish using a combination of wire, shells, beads, buttons and pebbles. Take the sculptures home to hang on the wall, make into mobiles or turn into wearable art. No experience needed. suitable for all ages and abilities, all tools and materials supplied. Allow around 45 minutes.

Powertex 3D Mixed Media Journal

Create an interesting 3D textural mixed media journal using Powertex and other mixed media products, there are a few designs to choose from be it, grungy autumn, gothic, subtle brights to pastel tones tones. Workshops are approximately 2hrs start time 

Furzie Felt

Running Times: 10.30am / 1.00pm & 3.00pm Everyday

Location: Mendip Hall Stand M15 - Furzie Felt

Price to attend: £10 per person

Needle-felt a Furzie animal head from wool on a decorative twizzle stick. The workshops are £10, last 60 to 90 minutes and include materials to make and take home an animal head. Suitable for beginners and those with experience, adults and children over 12 years.

Contempory Nuno Feltmaking

Create a Wire Sculpture

Create a simple wire sculpture either freestanding or mounted in a plaster base. This simple approach to sculpture is suitable for anyone and no previous experience is required. It can be a useful addition to textile based work by providing a framework for felt structures, fabric jewellery, etc. We will be using animals, figures or plant forms as the inspiration for our sculptures. All tools and materials provided.

My name is Sarah Kennard and I’m passionate about paint pouring.  It’s a wonderful activity that allows anyone to create beautiful images regardless of artistic or creative ability.  Come along alone or with friends and you’ll be able watch something wonderful and/or book a workshop session to create your own unique work of art!

Hand Felted Soaps

Why not join us for this fun filled workshop.
Hand felted soaps are naturally exfoliating, so you can jump in the shower just as it is, it is also naturally anti-bacterial, it won’t leave any residue on your sink, the soap will last longer and the felt will continue to shrink down with the soap as it is used, continuing to look attractive and small lovely.
 
You will be using merino wool and silk and be shown how to lay down the fibres around your soap, before felting it. The workshop will take 45 mins – an hour.

Caravan or Campervan Coaster

Creating a unique fabric coaster to take home and stitch you will be using a combination of appliqué, paint, pens, coloured pencils and my hand painted fabrics. There will be a several designs to choose from. The cost also  includes the backing fabric, heat resistant wadding and bias binding needed  to complete the project at home.  You can book in advance by emailing me at annehellyer@outlook.com.  Maximum of 9 people. A busy but fun hour, not only will you have a memento of your visit to the show to keep, or send to a friend. You will also learn how to create your own painted fabrics for future projects

Needle Felted Country Scene

Peg Loom Rug Weaving

Whether starting the day or finishing it, come and experience this fun and relaxing workshop, making your own small rug or seat cushion using beautiful wool selvedge yarn.  Using a pre-warped wooden peg loom, you can choose from a range of chunky wool selvedge yarn or cotton fabric yarn to weave a useful little rug for your home, and learn lots about weaving along the way!

I teach weaving using simple, inexpensive tools so it’s easy to learn and accessible to everyone.  No previous experience necessary - I supply all the materials and the techniques, you just bring your creativity and a willingness to experiment and play!

Each workshop is limited to 6 people so there is plenty of time for individual attention but still enough new people to chat and share ideas with.
