Take one stitch and master it! - Friday Only Workshop

Time: Friday 19th October at 10.15am & 1.15pm & 2.45pm

Location: Balcony Stand G13 - West Country Embroiders. (Child Friendly)

Cost to Attend: £5 adults, Children accompanied, Go Free!

This workshop will be run by Ann Emery, a member of the Sherborne West Country Embroiderers. 

In this workshop you will make a gift card with an insert of a piece of textural embroidery using just one stitch, but using different sizes and thicknesses of the thread.

Children are welcome in this workshop but must have a supervising adult. The adult does not have to take part if they do not want to. 

Learn the Art of Needle Tatted Lace

Time: 10.15am & 13:45pm Running all 3 days

Location: Stand 128 - Tatting and Design

Cost to Attend: £10 

In this workshop, run by the lovely Barbara, you will make a lovely gift bag with a lace motif on it. 

This workshop does not require any experience and you will learn all the school need to needle tat a double stitch,  make a chain, ring and picot, how to do a join and how to read a pattern to make a simple lace motif to stitch onto a gift bag, or use as you wish. 

This fantastic workshop is for 6 participants only so make sure you book a place in advance. Come and enjoy playing with block printing with these magical transfer paints  to make a design which, when dry, will be heat transferred on to fabric. You will take this lovely piece of art  home to embellish with stitch to make up into a card - (card, envelope and wadding included).

Nuno Feltmaking with Gillian Burbidge from Bicton College

NUNO FELTMAKING - with Gillian Burbidge from Bicton College 30-minute workshop at a cost of £6. 00. Create a sumptuous nuno piece (approximately A3 in size) using finest merino, embellished with lustrous pearled Leicester Longwool and Silk fibres. "Tailor-made" for lampshade or vessel cover, and/or further embroidery.

Print, Print and Print with Alison Hulme (Thursday Only)

Alison is a well-known and respected textile artist, demonstrating how to use stencils, stamps and Gelly plates.  Art Van Go have her as one of their regular demonstrators. There are 10 seats per session, each session lasts an hour. A donation would be appreciated to cover costs.

Quayside Postcard

Time: 11am & 2.30pm Running all 3 days

Location: Balcony Stand G1 - Anne Hellyer

Cost to Attend: £7

Come along and create your own unique fabric “Quay Side” postcard to take home and stitch.  

This workshop will run for approximately one hour, in which time you will design your own A6 postcard featuring a little row of houses, using acrylic paint to embellish them. These will be mounted onto a background to create your own quay side scene, which you can then take home and stitch, either by hand or machine.
 
All the fabrics used are hand painted by Anne and she will also tell you how to create your own painted fabrics for future projects.

In this great workshop, you will make and take home a lovely little-laminated pouch. In just 1 hour, you will learn sewing techniques and how to attach a working zip to the material.

Peg Loom Weaving

Take a break from the busy show to spend a relaxing hour making your own small rug or seat cushion.  Using a pre-warped wooden peg loom, you can choose from a range of chunky wool selvedge yarn or cotton fabric yarn to weave a useful little rug for your home, and learn lots about weaving along the way!

I teach weaving using simple, inexpensive tools so it’s easy to learn and accessible to everyone.  No previous experience necessary - I supply all the materials and the techniques, you just bring your creativity and a willingness to experiment and play!

Each workshop is limited to 6 people so there is plenty of time for individual attention but still enough new people to chat and share ideas with.

FELTbyFi Poppy Brooch

Medieval Textile Tiles

The lovely, talented Alicia Merrett will be demonstrating how she created her tiles designs using applique on to a fabric background, quilted and mountes on to a small stretch canvas. 

Alicia will show you the steps to take when making the tile and will be on hand to answer any questions. 

Felt Sew Creative Demonstrations

The lovely Leanne from Felt Sew Creative will be demonstrating and giving tips on techniques and materials on Felting. 

Leanne will be demonstrating how to make one of the following each day of the show: Wet Felting flowers, making felt beads and making a felt picture. 

 

      

Rag Rug Workshop Drop in

Cost to Attend: £3.20

Deborah from Rag Rug will be running drop-in Workshops throughout the day, if you see a spare seat, sit down and have a go! Don't worry if it's your first time. Using recycled Sari-Silk and a bit a ‘bling’ you can make a corsage to wear immediately you have completed it. Various colours available. There will also be new animals ‘makes’ of rabbit, Polar Bear, Bee and Octopus along with my favorites such as the Squirrel and Hedgehog. Suitable for beginners. No need to book, if there’s a seat you can start.
