Cornwall Hugs Grenfell

04/01/2018
Cornwall Hugs Grenfell

There will be a raffle of three beautiful wall hangings donated by Val Thomas of South West Quilters in support of the charity Cornwall Hugs Grenfell.

The charity objective is to provide holidays for the victims and firefighters of the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in June 2017, hopefully giving them a moment of relaxation and fun with friends and family. The money from the raffle will go towards paying for the travel expenses of those concerned.

Please visit their website for more information  : https://www.cornwallhugsgrenfell.org/

Val has been a member of South West Quilters for almost thirty years, and has served on the Committee for almost all of that time, taking on the various Executive positions, as well as all the odd jobs, over the years. She is currently Treasurer for the Sunset Trust, which is a form of charity within South West Quilters.

Val has also taught many workshops for SWQ from beginners, teaching basic piecing, to Art Quilts for the more advanced students. She specialises in Free Machine Quilting. She has made many bed quilts over the years, as well as a huge array of wall hangings, and recently donated six of her bed quilts to Cornwall hugs Grenfell for the use and benefit of some of the survivors of that dreadful tragedy.

They are all wall hangings. The largest one is called Florabundance. Made for the SWQ Challenge and it achieved 1st prize. The middle size one is called Forever Flowers made for the 25th Anniversary of Rosemore.  The small one is called Gold Hill

There will be a Chinese raffle where people put name and phone number on a raffle ticket and state which prize they would like to win.
