Janie started working with fabric at the age of 5 years old and considers herself a
Materialist….. in the true sense of the word !
In her early 20’s she completed a Degree in Fashion and Textiles at Gloucestershire College of Art and Technology in Cheltenham.
She then moved to London and studied Couture Millinery at The London College of Fashion.
She was taught by the Royal Couturier Marie O’Reagan.
These studies influenced her move to become a Costume/Props Maker .
Costume/ Props means : anything that is not a straight forward costume…but still needs to be wo !
Janie created textiles , head-dresses , hats, wings ,armour ,bees, a hamburger,
a jelly ,a blue rabbit, a red herring , etc.etc.etc.
Her film work includes Highlander , Dangerous Liaisons and Batman.
Her West End Shows includes Time , Phantom of the Opera ,Chess and Cats.
As a Costume /Props Maker Janie worked in most of the West End Theatres , visited all our Film Studios and worked with many famous Actors.
Ready for another challenge in 1989 Janie moved back to her roots …. the Cotswolds.
She established Janie Lashford’s Hats and Head-dresses, a purely fashion based Couture Milliners.
Her Ateliers were based in Cheltenham Spa and Droitwich Spa.
Her clients were Mother – of – the – Brides , Brides, Attendees at Royal Garden Parties and Investitures and Racing Enthusiasts.
By 1997 Janie was ready to share her vast knowledge with others.
She trained to be a teacher and taught Recreational Couture Millinery courses throughout Worcestershire and Gloucestershire Colleges……finally being head hunted to teach City & Guilds Millinery for Tile Hill College , Coventry.
Building on this experience by 2002 it was time for Janie to branch out on her own….. so she set up her own Couture Millinery School…at the end of her garden !
She now offers 16 x 2 or 3 day short courses and a 20 day City & Guilds course.
She is also available for one – to – one – intensives , specialist one – to – one tuition and group bookings.
The set programme of short courses are run on different days each month…including weekends …..to try and cater for every student’s diary.
The City & Guilds course is run one weekend a month for 10 months in succession.
For the programme of short courses and the City & Guilds course numbers are limited to 6 students a class to enhance maximum leaing potential.
The school is open throughout the year.
Janie Lashford’s School of Millinery is situated at Bowers Hill ….a hamlet of 13 houses on the northe most edge of the Cotswolds.
Evesham is the nearest town and Broadway , Willersey and Badsey are the nearest villages.
There is plenty of varied and very local accommodation available .
Evesham train station is 4 miles from the school .
Birmingham Inteational Airport is 20 miles from the school .
